Jewelry Boxes
Need a quick solution to organizing your jewelry? Are you
tired of tangles in necklaces, scratches on gold bangles,
or deteriorated pearls? Jewelry boxes
are your answer.
Think of all the time and money you invest in your jewelry.
If you are like most people, after you have worn the pieces
a few times you tend to shove the jewelry in a drawer, or
worse yet; leave it out to collect dust! Treat your jewelry
as you would treat other valuable possessions. Do you own
a car? Chances are you park the car in the garage to protect
it from the elements or burglars. Similarly, keep your jewelry
tucked away in a safe place to protect them from chemicals,
dust, and moisture in the air as well as out of sight to potential
thieves.
Types of Jewelry Boxes you
might want to consider:
- The thin box: these are shallow boxes, crafted usually
from mahogany or cherry wood, or given a mahogany stain.
They have divided compartments to organize your accessories,
with an available insert or pouch to hold necklaces.
- Large jewelry boxes: the most
popular wood style in large jewelry boxes seems to be a
type of cherry wood called Curly Cherry. The figured, or
Curly Cherry is similar to curly Maple, and when finished
looks richly rippled. The most important difference between
the small and larger jewelry boxes is that the larger has
a second tray that rests upon the first, commonly called
the stud or the ring tray. It has a sectioned portion dedicated
only to keeping stud earrings, such as pearls, or with a
special rack that displays and protects all of your rings.
- Men's Valets: Believe it or not, a type of jewelry
box is available for men also. This sleek bureau is
about the size of a wallet, and has an open compartment
in the middle for a wristwatch. Hinged doors guard smaller
compartments on the side and can be used to store rings,
cufflinks, bracelets, and other watches.
Different shapes to think about: the traditional rectangular
shape, the oval, the octagonal, the treasure chest, and the
raised box. Also available now are jewelry
boxes that store a whole list of tunes and songs, or come
with ceramic inlays of favorite pastoral scenes. Some are
covered in fabric with special patterns or pictures, and some
are embossed and inlaid with precious stones, such as mother-of-pearl.
